LAST LIGHT

Last Light is a series of photographs taken at dusk, towards the end of summer. Each photograph was taken on the shores of Lake Ginninderra, an artificial lake in the heart of suburbia. Despite its artificiality, the lake serves as an oasis in a place of continual drought, drawing a diversity of people at the close of a hot summer’s day. Here, the rhythm of life slows down, echoing the ebb and flow of the water at the lake’s edge. The evening sky lends each scene an elegiac quality. As the sun begins to set the light becomes more diffuse and the world less real. We find a place that is familiar to all: declarations of love on a tree trunk, couples embracing, people seeking a leisurely pace. These moments are a testimony to a passage in time, a poetic sensibility between past and present elaborated through the landscape.
